FAQ's for Parents

We work together with parents to understand their child's unique needs

We've Got You Covered

You are your child's best advocate and we respect that. As such, we work together with parents and their homeschooling plan. Whether it's a comfortable space for your child to work, regular academic support, extra-curricular activities or consistent peers and friendships, we have a schedule to suit you.

We provide a bespoke education and each child has an Individual Education Plan prepared by our teachers. There is a 1:8 guide to child ratio which means a highly tailored education with reports written each term for the core subjects. Maths, English, environmental science, science, sport are taught, as well as creative subjects. Social time is also woven into our day.

Frequently Asked
Questions

  • Do you support children with Special Educational Needs?
We have qualified special education teachers and child and adolescent therapists at Chiswick Microschool. As such, we can support children with many diagnosed and undiagnosed needs, for example: Autism Dyslexia ADHD ODD DLD We aim to fill gaps in the child’s curriculum and build their confidence, while helping schools and parents meet EHCP requirements wherever possible.
  • Who are Chiswick Microschool teachers?
Our teachers are former classroom teachers or tutors with expertise working with small groups and a passion for individualised learning. We aim to hire only the most inspiring and supportive individuals. They always integrate the child's interests into learning and enrichment activities. All teachers have an enhanced DBS and are trained in first aid, food safety, safeguarding and child mental health.
  • What ages does Chiswick Microschool support?
Chiswick Microschool is designed for KS1 (7-9 year olds), KS2 ( 9-11 year olds), KS3 (11-13 year olds) and KS4 (13-16 year olds). It is important to note that, at times, children will be allocated to these levels based on their individual needs rather than age and stage. KS4 will start in September 2025.
  • Is it a full or part-time programme?
Chiswick Microschool is designed to adapt to your family’s needs, not the other way around. You can choose whether you would like your child to attend one or more sessions per week. Students are required to arrive at least 10 minutes before each class.
  • What curriculum does Chiswick Microschool use?
Although we follow the national curriculum, we also work together with parents to choose the learning path that works best for their child. As each child has their Individual Education Plan, our academic team can provide private consultations to recommend resources that align with your family’s education goals and your child’s learning needs.
  • What is your policy on children bringing internet enabled devices to Chiswick Microschool?
Chiswick Microschool is a safe space for children and given some of the deleterious effects on social interaction and young people's mental health, no personal internet enabled electronic devices or computers are to be brought to the setting or to be used by pupils. Mobile phone use is not permitted at any time. In the rare instance that mobile phones are brought to the setting, as part of a back up system for safe travel, these devices are to be handed in at the beginning of the day and kept in a secure box, thereby eliminating the distraction of mobile phones and the risk of children accessing potentially harmful or illegal materials online whilst in our care. Parents are free to contact Chiswick Microschool during the day if they have a message for their child.
  • Do you offer a complete curriculum for KS1-KS4?
Our role is to support parents by supplementing the learning taking place at home and elsewhere. However, it is important to note that the responsibility for providing a full-time education remains with parents.
  • What is your child to teacher ratio?
We provide a bespoke education and each child has an Individual Education Plan prepared by our lead teacher. There is a 1:8 teacher to child ratio which means a highly tailored education.
  • Do we have to pay for the full term?
Yes. Parents are required to pay for the full-term (in 3 installments) because when a child is booked onto a course, a slot for the entirety of the class is put aside for that child. As we have small personalised classes, if children could leave part way through, it would be hard to fill the slot mid-course, plan properly, allocate resources accurately and secure the very best learning guides.
  • How do I go about registering with Chiswick Microschool?
To book a trial or for more information, please contact us as chiswickmicroschool@gmail.com
  • What is an Individual Education Plan?
Each child at Chiswick Microschool has an Individual Education Plan which outlines their individual learning style, strengths and difficulties as well as teaching strategies and resources to be used by us and external agencies (if relevant) to support them. The IEP may also include any assessment information about your child that we hold. Wherever possible, your child will be asked their views about how they learn and what targets they would like to achieve for themselves.
  • Do parents stay for the sessions?
No. All sessions are drop off. Parents are required to be at the setting at least 10 minutes before the start of each session and ten minutes before the end of the day.
  • What are your policies?
Our policies are available from the office. Please email us with your request.
  • How much does it cost? What is the timetable?
Please go to the homepage https://www.chiswickmicroschool.com/ for details of the timetables for KS2 (8-11 year olds), KS3 (11-13 year olds) and KS4 (14-16).
